JACKSON — The 2009 Tennessee Baptist Pastors Conference, set for Monday, Nov. 9, at West Jackson Baptist Church here will focus on the theme “The Preacher’s Power: Inside and Out.”

“Today the pressure on those of us in the ministry is greater than ever before,” says David Leavell, president of the Pastors Conference and pastor of First Baptist Church, Millington.

“While we never need compare ourselves to someone else and feel inadequate, we do need to faithfully and energetically fulfill the call that God has placed on our hearts. That is the basis of this year’s Pastors Conference,” Leavell said.

Leavell said that during each session, “we will exegete Matthew 6:33 which says, ‘But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you as well.’ ”

Leavell said each speaker “comes to us with a wealth of experience and a heart for God and His preachers.”

The conference will feature well-known Southern Baptist evangelist Richard Jackson of Granbury, Texas, and two Tennessee Baptist pastors among the six speakers.

The Tennessee pastors are Larry Robertson, pastor of Hilldale Baptist Church, Clarksville, and president-elect of the Pastors Conference, and David Landrith, pastor of Long Hollow Baptist Church, Hendersonville.

Other speakers include Ed Stetzer, missiologist, LifeWay Christian Resources, Nashville; Bob McCartney, pastor, First Baptist Church, Wichita Falls, Texas; and Robert Jeffress, pastor, First Baptist Church, Dallas.

The Monday afternoon session is scheduled from 1-4 p.m. Speaking during that time slot will be Robertson, McCartney and Stetzer. Officers also will be elected in the afternoon session.

A special session entitled “The Good Cup” will be held for ministers wives from 1-3:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall of West Jackson Baptist Church. No reservations are needed.

The evening session of the conference will be held from 6-9 p.m. Speakers will be Jeffress, Landrith and Jackson.

“My earnest prayer and expectation is that our Lord will inhabit the worship of His people,” Leavell said.
